Two events coming up soon
Exciting news: I’ve got two more events scheduled for my latest book, Dave McNally: The Montanan Who Revolutionized Baseball.
First, I’ll be in Bozeman, Montana, on Saturday, March 14, for an event at the Country Bookshelf on Main Street. Hoping to see lots of my former colleagues and friends in the Gallatin Valley on that day.
Second, in April, I’m flying to Baltimore, where through this day, 23 years after his death, Dave is still loved by hundreds, perhaps thousands, of Orioles fans. And this is really swell. As you may know, Baltimore was the birthplace of Babe Ruth, so fittingly the Babe Ruth Museum exists to honor the legendary slugger. My event, from noon-2 p.m., on Saturday, April 11, will take place at the museum!
I arranged the Baltimore event through my membership in the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR), and I sincerely thank Peter Coolbaugh, a volunteer at the museum and SABR member, for setting it up.
We’re working out details, but it appears that a Baltimore bookstore, The Ivy, will provide books for purchase and signing on the day of the event at the museum. Thanks to both Peter and Hannah Fenster at The Ivy for helping arrange this.
Last but certainly not least. While I’m in Baltimore, I plan to use Amtrak to take me to two National League cities where McNally and his Orioles made waves in 1970 and 1971: Cincinnati and Pittsburgh.
I hope to get to Cincinnati since Dave hit a grand slam home run against the Reds in Game Three of the 1970 World Series; that was the first and remains the only grand slam hit by a pitcher in Series play.
I also want to travel to Pittsburgh. The Orioles lost to the Pirates in the seven-game 1971 World Series, but McNally was a two-time winner in that Series.
Again, hope to see folks on the East Coast, as well as in the Bozeman area, when spring rolls around.
